The 1918 influenza pandemic was more virulent on the second pass it disproportionately affected the young due to an over reaction of the immune system. They had been infected by the first pass with mild symptoms and over reacted to the second pass.This is why the younger medical staff were also affected as they had encountered this virus before due to their work.Vitamin D normalizes the immune response and the countries which supplement their populations with vitamin D will have a better outcome.
